Kadot Tad mine, Mogok, Burma
|
This fine ruby in its calcite matrix has a very good prismatic shape and displays a good red color. It is believed to originate from the Kadot Tad mining area where miners are mostly former rebels. This is the reason why this place is sometimes called an "insurgent mine". In fact, the Burmese military government has given some large economic advantages, including mining concessions, to the rebel groups that have agreed to stop fighting against them. In the Kadot Tad area, we can find Kokants, Was, and Shans living in camps and mining peacefully. Is this ruby a peace ruby? Well its just a ruby... Mogok is such a strange place! |
